The body you're taking to college

An honest guide to sleeping, eating, and moving when nobody's making you.

Thursday, September 17 Β· 6:30pm PT / 9:30pm ET Β· 30 minutes

For students 19 and up, and the parents watching from a distance.
Register once and watch it together.

Nobody wakes them up

Nobody cooks. Nobody notices they haven't slept properly in nine days.

Nobody says anything about the backpack on one shoulder, or the fourth night in a row of going to bed at three.

Most students don't come apart in first term because they're careless. They come apart because every system that used to run quietly in the background is suddenly theirs to run. Meals had a time. Bedtime had a reason. Someone else was holding the schedule.

Then it's gone, all at once, in a week that also includes new people, new work, and a bed that isn't theirs.

By late September the phone calls start. I feel awful. I'm exhausted. My back hurts and I don't know why.

What I'll cover

  • Sleep, and why it goes first It's the domino that knocks over the rest. One change protects it, and it isn't going to bed earlier.
  • Eating for steady energy What to do with a meal plan, a mini fridge, no cooking skills, and the only thing open being open at eleven at night.
  • What a day of sitting does to a young back And the two-minute reset that undoes most of it.
  • Carrying a bag, setting up a desk, sleeping on a bad mattress Small mechanical things that cause a surprising amount of pain.
  • Building a routine that survives a bad week Not a perfect one. Willpower runs out around week three. Systems don't.
  • For parents: how to help without hovering What's worth a phone call, and what to leave alone.

Why me

I've been a chiropractor for 31 years and I've run my own clinic for 25 of them. I've done over 100,000 adjustments, and a lot of them were on young adults who'd been sitting badly for months and had no idea that was the reason.

I've also sent my own kids off to school. I know the version of this conversation where you say something useful and they nod and forget it, and the version where something actually lands.

I'm not going to tell your kid to go to bed at ten. I'm going to tell them what happens if they don't, and give them something they'll actually do.

What this is, and isn't

  • It's free, and it's live. Thirty minutes. Most of it from me, the rest for your questions.
  • It's practical. Nothing here needs a supplement, a gym membership, or money.
  • It's education, not medical advice. It doesn't replace care from your own doctor. If your student has a current injury or health concern, that's a conversation for their own provider.
  • There's no pitch built into it. At the end I'll mention my booklet and how to work with me, once, and then I'll stop.

Common questions

My student won't watch a webinar +

Probably not live. Register anyway and I'll send you the replay. Twenty minutes of it in the car at Thanksgiving is worth more than the whole hour on a Thursday night.

Is this only for first years? +

No. It's for anyone living away from home for the first time, or the second or third time and still not sleeping.

Do I need to be a patient? +

No. It's online, it's general, and it's open to anyone anywhere.

What if I can't make it? +

Register and you'll get the recording either way.

Can my student attend on their own? +

Yes. It's written for both of you. Nothing in it needs a parent in the room.

You spent eighteen years building the person.
This is half an hour on the body that carries them.
